Disc Duplication: Bulk Ink Disc Printing vs. Cartridges.
Categories: Disc Duplication
Virtually all inkjet based CD/DVD disc printers on the market now use Hewlett Packard derived print engines, be they from R-Quest, Verity Systems, Microboards or Rimage, the only exception being Primera who don’t use HP, and Epson, who obviously use their own printing technology.

Cartridge based disc printing is fine for most applications, but for companies that produce a larger run of discs each month (typically 4000 and above), cartridges based printing can prove quite expensive. With all new inkjet disc printers using “chipped” cartridges, the cost in ink per disc can typically be 20 pence, and maybe as much as 40 pence, depending on the artwork being printed and which manufacturers printer.
So for those companies with a higher throughput the savings that can be found from a bulk ink CD printer can be considerable. Instead of 20 pence per disc (or still 12 pence per disc with compatible or refill cartridges) a bulk ink printer such as the IMT Marathon 300 will cost approximately 2p a disc – a huge saving. On a production run of 4000 discs per month this will equate to somewhere between 10 and 18 pence per disc. To put it another way, the annual saving will be a minimum of £4800 and perhaps as much as £8600.00, easily paying for a Marathon printer in the first year of production.
So even with a smaller monthly production of say 2000 discs, an IMT Marathon printer will still pay for itself in around 2 – 3 years, or for higher throughputs in as a little as six months!
